At Valmy Academy, we believe performing arts education is about more than technique. It is about confidence, belonging, self-expression and helping young people discover who they are through creativity and storytelling.
Auditions for Shrek Jr will take place on Saturday 14 June at Valmy Academy Studios in Albion.
Importantly, auditions are not about whether a child “makes it into” the production. Every registered participant performs in the show.
Auditions simply help our creative team determine where each young performer will shine brightest within the production and allow students to experience preparing for and participating in a theatrical audition environment that is still supportive, low-pressure and community-focused.
We believe auditions should feel exciting, encouraging and confidence-building — especially for young performers learning how to take creative risks and grow in confidence.

Each day is carefully structured to balance creativity, focus and fun — no chaos, no downtime drift.
Students will:
• Audition and receive a role
• Learn choreography and ensemble numbers
• Rehearse scripted scenes
• Develop vocal technique and projection
• Work in small cast groups and full company rehearsals
• Build confidence through performance practice
• Participate in theatre games and team-building activities
By the end of the week, every student performs in a fully staged musical production complete with costumes, lighting, sound and an audience.
This is not a “showcase.”
It is a complete production process delivered in a safe, age-appropriate and professionally managed environment.
Our team ensures students are:
• Supported if they’re new
• Challenged if they’re experienced
• Included regardless of ability level
Whether your child is stepping onto the stage for the first time or already loves performing, they will leave the week more confident, more capable, and proud of what they achieved.
In one week, something shifts.
Students who arrive nervous find their voice.
Friendships form quickly through shared rehearsal rooms and backstage laughter.
Shy performers stand taller.
Confident performers stretch further.
There’s something powerful about working towards opening night together.
The countdown.
The costumes.
The lights.
The applause.
For some children, this week sparks a lifelong love of theatre.
For others, it simply becomes the highlight of their school holidays.
Either way, they leave knowing they were part of something real.
Not a class.
Not a drop-in activity.
A cast. A company. A show.
For the past five years, we have been producing high-quality musical theatre productions for young performers, building a well-oiled creative community where children and teens are supported, challenged and celebrated as they grow in confidence, skill and belonging.
